  • Understanding the Basics of Medicare:

    • Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.
    • Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services.
    • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage): Offers all benefits and services covered under Parts A and B, usually includes Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) as part of the plan, and may offer extra benefits and services.
    • Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage): Adds prescription drug coverage to Original Medicare, some Medicare Cost Plans, some Medicare Private-Fee-for-Service Plans, and Medicare Medical Savings Account Plans.

  • Navigating the Enrollment Process:

    • Initial Enrollment Period: You have a 7-month period that begins 3 months before you turn 65, includes the month you turn 65, and ends 3 months after you turn 65.
    • Special Enrollment Periods: If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period, you might be able to sign up during one of these if you meet certain criteria, such as having health coverage under an employer group plan.
    • General Enrollment Period: If you missed both the Initial and Special Enrollment Periods, you can sign up between January 1 and March 31 each year, with coverage starting July 1.
